About your broader valuation and jp's horse sense: Our schools aren't set up to deal with such things - real as they are. For any job that uses a desk, "broader valuations" obstruct. Reading, writing, meeting deadlines, "a job well done" ... these are teachable in a classroom. Finding intuitive abilities, like artistic talent, a way with wood or horsecraft - that's tougher. And for 99% of us, knowing what to do around a mortise or an Appaloosa is dead knowledge. For the other 1%, it's the blood of life. I'm not sure the two sides can even talk to each other, City Slickers notwithstanding.
