Did you read the Gilmoor article, JP? He accused them of being naughty towards the competition (as if Ellison or McNeely wouldn't gladly cut Bill off at the knees if they had a chance). Yes, I was being sarcastic.

Not to speak for Uncle Frank, but I don't think he was being sarcastic. By providing a common, stable platform for innovation and development, Microsoft has provided the springboard for more companies than any other business in the industry. In many ways, MSFT has been the engine of the software revolution of the past decade and the key to the continued growth of the American economy.

Though it is just starting to the the recognition it deserves, MSFT Research (http://www.microsoft.com/research ) has become the world's premier computer science research institution and will help set the computer science innovation agenda for the next decade.
