Corel needs a hot new line of products

Financial Post
The remarkable turnaround inCorel Corp.' stock fortunes will be complete on Jan. 20, when the software company is expected to report its first quarterly profit in more than two years.

The tantalizing prospect of that fourth-quarter profit has diverted investors from the fact that Corel is still a company with a mature product line and Microsoft Corp. as its biggest competitor.

...Ms. Orr is optimistically predicting earnings - share of 40¢ (US) for Corel this year and revenue of $302-million (US). She admits these are higher than the company's guidance would suggest. "I think management is taking a conservative approach to its numbers," she said.
