I was about to buy a best seller at AMZN for $ 17.50 plus shipping of $ 3.95 when I checked the price at shopping.com the price was $ 12.50 plus shipping of $3.50 Any guesses where I purchased the book? I was surprised to see Compaq purchase shopping.com. Press releases indicate that in addition to selling PC's and related electronic equipment and supplies shopping.com will continue to sell sundry other merchandise including books, CD's and videos. With heavy hitters like Compaq getting into e-commerce beyond PC's I suspect online commerce will be inundated with competitors over the next few years. Sounds to me like an area where margins will be razor thin.
