It looks to me like Business Week has proved yet again that it is a contrarian indicator.

Other possible reasons (if reason be required, and I'm not convinced it has any role in the stock market):

Microsoft starts its defense, and some may expect them to be able to wriggle away from the DOJ's case.

Solaris on Merced news may be misinterpreted as negative (e.g. Sun "abandoning" SPARC, or helping the enemy camp).

New SGI NT machine announced.

Normal volatility/profit-taking.

JMHO.

I can't comment on INTC, but CPQ's announcement that they are buying shopping.com is what's driving it up--CPQ now looks real attractive to the internet chicken players.

Still, after the WSW programs, I would have expected SUNW to do well today.
