Regarding the Lucent deal. Being a customer of LU, BAY, and ASND I use to believe that LU lost by not getting BAY. However, I feel LU will be better off with ASND. By buying ASND, LU just became the Worlds largest remote access provider to ISP's. Don't forget LU also owns Livingston which also makes Remote Access devices as well and owns Radius the industry authentication standard.

ASND also has the Cascade Frame Relay switches that they acquired last year.. ASND is also deploying DSL on the TNT and I Belive Max line of their remote access routers. This acquisition will give LU a major leap forward in the TELCO/ISP business

I also believe that Nortel benefitted much better with them getting BAY. It seems like a perfect fit for NORTEL.

Regards,
Mark

Whether LU get a better deal six months ago or now, depends on the stock price of LU vs ASND of six months ago and that of today. It is a stock swap, not a cash buy out.
