StarBase Closes Major Sale with Leading
Entertainment Services Company

StarBase to Provide and Implement Strategic Components in Point-of-Sale System in
Over 1,600
Distributed Locations

SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- StarBase Corporation (Nasdaq: SBAS -
news), a leading provider of advanced
Internet and intranet-based technical collaboration and software configuration
management tools, today announced that a leading
national store chain in the entertainment industry has signed an agreement with StarBase
for an initial 1,700 product licenses of
StarTeam. The company expects to deploy StarTeam in all retail stores and will fully
implement the product within their software
development teams. The company will also utilize StarBase's Compliance Tracking
System (CTS) to assist with their Year 2000
compliance efforts.

This agreement is expected to increase to over 3,000 product licenses as this Internet and
retail chain entertainment services
company continues its aggressive and fast paced growth. This 10-year-old company
opened 352 new superstores in the twelve
months ended September 30, 1998, and with more than 1,200 stores in 43 states it's
growing at the rate of one new store every
day. Their leading position and growth is evident with approximate annual revenues of
three-quarter billion dollars and net income
of $19.4 million for the last three-quarters ending September 30, 1998.

The StarTeam solution will be deployed to support the management of their Point-Of-Sale
system. StarBase's software solution
will provide for a distribution process and deliver change management control for the
corporate-wide software development team.
The customer's objective is to manage and maintain tight control over the development of
software that supports a dynamic and
evolving retail system.

The director of store systems at the company said, ''We are pleased to work with a
company such as StarBase in our development
efforts and store systems. After careful evaluation it became evident that StarTeam was
clearly the best solution for our needs,
and StarBase would be the company we would work with on this implementation.
StarTeam will help ensure the quality of our
store systems, thereby allowing our employees more opportunity to focus on customer
service. StarTeam is a remarkable product
and we look forward to implementing it throughout our chain.''

''This agreement and others reflects a recent transition for StarBase into the enterprise
marketplace,'' said William Stow, president
and chief executive officer of StarBase. ''The evolution of StarTeam into an enterprise
solution, combined with first tier consulting,
implementation and support services that we have developed over the past year is paying
off with significant wins such as this.
Today's highly distributed enterprise infrastructures and growing dependence on the
Internet create the need for an exceptional
approach to Software Configuration Management (SCM) and Software Distribution.
StarTeam has emerged as the unique and
powerful solution to this challenge.''

William McManes, vice president of sales for StarBase stated, ''Technical collaboration
and SCM are critical components of
corporate productivity. This implementation is an excellent example of how large
companies are recognizing that StarTeam can
help them significantly increase their productivity, and improve their bottom line. The
corporate adoption of StarTeam technology
has always been the final measure of our success. We are very excited to gain the
acceptance of a premier company like this and
look forward to delivering on the productivity promise of true technical collaboration.''
