Tip, The components are much more expensive for the notebooks because they have to fit in such a small space. The screen is pricier. But, I know that notebook margins are not that great, so the price drops are hurting.

tip, the trends are hitting the notebooks too... bought a machine
for $1300 in Dec. that was priced around $2500 in Mar-April...
glut of 12.1" and 13.3" FPD screens now, apparently. Of course
smaller (& probably more heat-resistant) stuff, more shock-resistant
disk drives, and the FPD itself cost more than desktop equipment...
will always be a differential there. Maybe there are even better
deals post-Christmas (although the machine I bought may be sold out...
it was scuzzy, obsolete P200MMX closeout -g-). (from Quantex)
(IMO, the way to go with laptops now is get a closeout that is
--just barely--- about to become "older technology", like MMX instead
of PII laptops, 13.3" instead of 14 or 15" screens....
Or else go for one of the subcompacts, tapped on a Sony at the store
recently and they look very light, really comfortable to travel with.

Maybe a month or so is right.
