Novell Inc. and Netscape Communications Corp. are adding intelligence such as service provider and extranet network management to their respective directories.

Novell (NOVL) is developing an interface that will separate the NDS (Novell Directory Services) front end from the data store. The interface will allow Novell to use a relational database to store objects, according to sources close to the Provo, Utah, company.
