early 1980s I set up a 7 phone line APPLE IIE driven bulletin board. 300bps was all that was available.. Started off with 2 calls a day, 3, than 10.. a year later upgraded to the new 1200bps just out! wow.. 50 calls a day.. 100... We invented terms like 'email', 'hack', 'phreak', and the only attention we got from the top was people in law enforcement concerned that the spread of information via the modem/hobbiests could be a serious threat to national security.. It even afforded me a nice big file with the FBI... so here we are, almost 20 years later and the corporate monsters finally caught on and gobbled our ideas.. AOL is suing over the term 'got mail'.. Its still in its infancy, which makes the whole thing even funnier... welp- I have just shared one of my life failures with you all! Thats why im here trading stocks all day, because I had the enthusiasm/vision to be one of the pioneers behind all this internet crap, yet I grew bored of it and sold the business.. $500 was the sale price I believe... Actually the freind who bought it now runs a HUGE system with over 500 phone lines, direct internet, blah blah blah.. ... VERY funny thing to add- I used to sell computers, peripherals, etc etc and we came up with the wonderful idea of putting all our items on my system for people to call in and order modems, etc etc... Bought my first car because of a sale to Drew University in NJ thanks to online selling... ok- you can all go back to your regular conversations.. Im getting depressed now...
