MB. I think the PC "glut" is a by-product of over analysis. Pardon me for being so direct but I have been "hearing" about this supposed "glut" for so long that it is quickly becoming yesterday's news. The big players will continue to eat the lunch of the tiny mom and pop shops to maintain their growth rates. Why can't a consolidating industry be a source of viable growth? Any setback in demand would be viewed as a temporary situation by the street...hence little or no sell-off in stock prices. In light of the mania, how can you hope to make money with your knowledge and opinion? The mania has continued, for the most part unabated, for 4 years.

And about that theory of a "glut" of PC boxes at retailers around Xmas, my observation on the east coast and in the upper midwest is that the boxes have been virtually sold out. Consumers, flush with new credit limits, have been trampling each other at retailers to buy just about any PC or PC package priced under $1000. Any box priced under $700 (except crappy Packard Bell) has sold out the day of the sale.

I do admire your tenacity as a contrarian...all the while Call volume reaches a 25 year record. For myself I chose the easy road of least resistance. I have removed the book mark for Fleckenstein's column as there seems to be too much contagious cynicism in his remarks. Poor Fleck, I can't find anyone who has been more wrong in his views but I do admire his honesty.
