Lycos CEO Says Firm Will Overtake Yahoo "Very Soon" (LCOS) - Rpt
Newstraders - January 11, 1999 15:36
(NewsTraders.com)-- Lycos (LCOS) CEO Bob Davis declared that his company will overtake market leader Yahoo (YHOO) in terms of market reach "very soon," according to a recent interview the executive
had with PC Week Senior Writer Jim Kerstetter.

When asked if he thought his firm could overtake Yahoo, Davis replied: "We're now in the margin of error of the No. 1 spot. And, if you look at the existing rates of growth, we're going to overtake Yahoo whether it is in December or January or February, we are going to do it, and it is going to happen very soon."

Davis said his company doesn't plan to unify their various brands (Lycos.com, Hotbot.com and Tripod.com) because it "would run contrary to what has made [us] grow," he explained. But the content of the brands is already unified by recirculating traffic, which has helped them grow faster than anything else on the Web.

Davis said that advertising revenue will continue to be an important part of the Lycos model, but the company will be "creative in our ability to sell products online.
