I don't consider it destroyed. Tested, yet again. An important element that I gathered from his speech was that there will always be "partys", and though I believe the ideas and changes brought about by them have been a boon at times, they can also threaten our unity as a people and that it is up to those on nuetral (not opinionless) ground to hold the center, thereby holding the union together.

Bob,

Do you realize that in the 3rd world GATT and similar agreements are frequently regarded as attempts to pry their markets open to a flood of imported goods from developed countries, moving their wealth to our pockets?

There will always be winners and losers in a free market; most analysts agree that the strongest and most efficient economies will be the winners. Who do you think that will be?

Isolationism - or near-isolationism - in today's world is absurd. Do you have any idea how much of our wealth derives from engagement with the rest of the world? If you see us giving something away, look for the other side of the coin. There's a good chance we're getting something back.

Steve
