Pruguy,
There you go being logical! I have already determined that there is nothing logical about the Internets. 220 million is a small chunk of an advertising budget for Compaq. It may be that they are building AV value for a spin off, or they have a vision better then ours. I hope it is the latter. I can think of all sorts of good scenarios, but it would all be conjecture.

Remember Lynn's research into the CPQ online PC ordering process? Others agreed with her poor rating of the web site.

Could it be that the new "cpq.com" store will improve the internet ordering process of CPQ computers?

Pruguy,

The whole computer biz in a sea of change.

I also see Compaq hooking with a major Internet provider ala ATT, MCI/Worldcom for integrated services.

Folks are going offer lower end PC's, essentially for free once the consumer signs up for phone, internet service similar to the Cable boxes today or the cellular folks etc.

Compaq is positioning itself to offer solutions from the very low end to the very high end of the market needs as Internet growth accelerates world-wide.

For example look at the yahoo/IBM deal, Dell is talking with GTE etc.

I looks for lots of such moves in the next year.

Regards,

Kash

Dear Pruguy: First off Shopping.com is growing rapidly right now its rather small so razor thin margins not surprising. Secondly, seems to me it fits in well with AltaVista which will lead to even faster growing revenue for Shopping.Com. The theory is, "Volume cures all ills" JDN
