FT,

I suspect that television has simply created an easy outlet for an inherent inclination toward laziness and passivity. I have on occasion thought, while visiting the US, that the majority of the population would benefit from experiencing a coup d'etat, a volcano, or anything else that would wake them up. The news programs, but only those too lazy to resist. Nobody can be programmed against their will, assuming that they have one.

Specialization and general knowledge are by no means exclusive, and every specialist needs at least passing familiarity with a broad range of other fields. General knowledge without specialization all too often flirts with dilettantism, IMO. The dividing factor is less the knowledge accumulated by the specialist than the discipline required to obtain it.

Galt will have to make do with a very brief reply. I have chickened out on Korea - double is plenty - and need to find some happy destination for the proceeds. Looking seriously at medium sized oil services firms, profitable but beaten down. X likes them too, so you will probably hate them.

If you believe in contrarian indicators, it is probably an excellent time to buy some Korean stocks.
