To find out how long someone has had an SI membership all you have to do is click on their name.

I would agree that some people like AOL that have a captive audience to advertise to will eventually be fairly profitable. Others that derive their revenue from selling merchandise could have real problems though. There is always someone with lower overhead willing to sell for less. In conventional retailing you can avoid this problem by locking up the prime real estate and pushing the discounter into some crummy property. But on the web, all are equals. The little guy with low overhead can have a neat web page, and undercut the big guy. With search engines to find low prices, what value added do the big guys add that would justify a higher price?

But it will take people awhile to sort out the winners from the losers. But just as their will be some winners, there will be plenty of losers. Growth alone is not enough.
