MPEG encoding is a very good reason for buying an Intel chip.
Very FPU intensive. Perhaps you will remember that CeleronA?
You might also realize that Quicktime is an Apple concoction.
Would be a strange mix of KNI instructions and Apple core.

Re: MPEG 2 is the standard for both Direct TV and Echostar Satellite broadcasting, the unified HDTV standard and the current DVD standard.

DIVX, too, since it is DES encrypted DVD.
