Do you think the removable brackets at Dirt Cheap drives are overkill? $99 for a frame and cartridge. Frames and cartridges available separately. Rated for 50000 insertions. Frame has a ball bearing cooling fan. dirtcheapdrives.com Click on Web Store then brackets at the upper left then Smart Shuttle then part numbers to see pictures and descriptions... specific links to this site expire so I just posted the home page:(

How long will we be using the current pin configuration?

I was checking out drives at Storage Review storagereview.com. The local Comp USA is sold out of the deal on Maxtor harddrives you posted. I took that as a sign that I am supposed to be looking at a larger drive. The Maxtor 17.2 GB 4320 drive looks nice. Quieter, faster, bigger, cooler and cheaper than the IBM 5400 RPM counterpart.

$299 at TJTs tjt.com That is as good as the Comp USA deal... better if you consider it only uses one IDE slot instead of three for the equivalent amount of storage.

The review at Storage Review speaks of an option for Ultra ATA66 with an 80 pin connection. Will this become a standard in the 'near' future making an investment in a quality removable drive bay a waste of money?

Removable Hard Drives -

Here's a site I ran across a while back. I've never really seen these drives work, so I have no idea how good they are. Seem a bit pricey, but its an interesting concept.

interactivemediacorp.com

Here's the news release about the hard drives:

Short review of the drives:

Sounds kind of similar to the upcoming Device Bay concept that Microsoft/Intel/Compaq are gearing up for. For anyone not yet familiar with Device Bay, visit this link:
