i'm preparing to go the real time route also. i'd appreciate your thoughts on the following:
1) why MB over AB Waitley, or anyone else?
2) does MB offer a trainer, so i can learn with "soft" dollars?
Tuition on wall street is steep
3) I'm planning on trading in lots of 200-800 shares? Are their systems better suited to that? I do not plan on active day-trading
4) Do any of these systems permit "odd-lot" trades?

Answers to your questions in order:

1)Watley was pretty good service towards the end--I simply had "issues". I wanted to try CyberTrader but they wouldn't have me. MB has a very good rep on this thread and hopefully service to match. I will let you know. First day with feed today. Haven't funded the account yet.

2) I have heard that you can trade small lots (300 shares or less) for a while at $5/trade to get used to the system. You'll have to inquire.

3) I can't see using any other kind of system even if you only do a few trades a month. I like to be in control. That may just be personal preference. But it seems like on severe days or severe times for a particular stock you are at the mercy of your broker and the MM's. One lousy deal on a trade pays for a lot of data fees--I'm talking years.

4) Yes, you can do any number of shares you want--no fractions. Smallest I ever did was 4 shares. Not on purpose.
