Advanced Fibre Communications Achieves Milestone in Company's History
PETALUMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1999--Advanced Fibre Communications(R), Inc. (AFC) (Nasdaq:AFCI) announced today the shipment of the largest single purchase order in its history during the third and fourth quarters of 1998.

WinStar Communications, a leading Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), placed the order with AFC during the late third quarter of 1998. AFC completed shipments pursuant to this purchase order in the fourth quarter of 1998.

AFC's UMC 1000 complements WinStar's strategically orchestrated network expansion plans by delivering cost-effective, high-density access solutions. In addition, the quick turn-up of services and plug-and-play functionality of the UMC 1000 offers WinStar the significant speed to market advantage they require.

"This is a strategic win for us," comments Troy Conley, AFC's vice president, CLEC Sales. "Clearly, WinStar is a company on the cutting-edge and AFC is privileged to be a part of their aggressive deployment strategies."

"Working closely with WinStar to launch their aggressive network build out has been very rewarding for us at AFC," comments Rich Stanfield, AFC's vice president North American Sales. "The breadth of services offered by WinStar is impressive and we are pleased to provide the UMC 1000 platform to deliver the critical access solutions essential to their expansion efforts."
