Sean, thanks for the tips.

I believe it is a dead board, I swapped cpu's and then yanked the mobo and put in the second one.

Mushkin is sending me a new MOBO today.

Now i got the second mobo going and here are my results so far:

bios finds the video card ok
checks the memory ok
then things start to get shakey...

I get a warning that sez : CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU

at this point i can go into bios and into CPU SOFT MENU and i see :
CPU Operating Speed : 233(66)

so i changed that to 300(66)

restarted

it finds the video card and checks memory then instead of flashing a warning The energystar icon and the text at the bottom of the screen disappear. my keyboard is dead ... the caplock light won't come on.

Whats up with this?

I restart and set the cpu back to 233(66) and then i get the same warning message again upon reboot.

hehe box building 101, I am off to a shakey start.

I just swapped CPU's. Same thing.

All that is plugged in is the video card, one stick of good memory and the hard drive.

Do I try to discharge the CMOS ?

TFM almost makes me think it would be the right move.
