they can't read information about you (such as email id) from the TCP/IP connection stream.

email id is NOT in the HTTP request. POP id is (where you are connecting from). I routinely go through my cookie.txt file to clean out nosey sites I do not want.

If cookies are so important, why is it that I suffer no ill effects at most sites when I refuse them? When establishing a session at my broker, I allow them, but from most sites I refuse them. I also do not put my email information in my browser lest it should give it out. Since I started doing this it seems that the amount of junk email I receive has dropped substantially. But perhaps it is the extensive email filtering that my email program does, routing most junk mail directly to the trash, though I also lose a few emails I'd like to see.
