re:today's action - Only thing I see is interest rate reaction. The cause seems to be the Bank of Japan intervention; leading to a rate reaction; leading to some stock pressure. The down tick is across the board it seems. Internets and techs are down more only because of their higher gains yesterday...

"Seriously, any speculation on the cause of today's sell-off."

I think that the GBMM's carry very small inventories (probably because of the internet craze), and when a stock has great strength such as Intel did this morning, they try to open the stock at an impossibly high price to induce adequate supply. In other words they are seeking sellers rather than acting as true market makers should by selling (short) from inventory if necessary.

When this (extremely high opening price) happens, it can ruin the whole day for a stock.
