Yousef:

I still can't believe AMD is gonna buy its .18 process from Motorola and try to transfer it onto their (very different) equipment set. As for AMD getting .18 volume production out this year, I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: "The K7 on .25um ?? ... I mean, who wants a K7 that runs at 400mhz."

Poor Yousef, once again demonstrating he knows nothing about how process technology relates to final silicon. <GGG>

re: .. Again, Intel is ahead
of AMD in IC process technology (tm Yousef).

Has anybody ever seriously challenged that proposition? I mean, I don't think that anybody can argue that amd has overall superior IC process technology. I think arguments can definitely be made that amd is superior in two or three specific areas(eg. LI, amd has it, intc doesn't). But for the most part is equal or not as good as Intel's. So anybody who argues that AMD is ahead of Intel in overall process tech has been smokin some funny weeds.

That said, I think that the key to Intel's success has not been their superior IC process (but its helped) but their superior EXECUTION process. Intel has a long history of executing well. AMD has not had even remotely good execution until K6-2. I unfortunately believe that they will find many problems introducing K7 and getting Fab30 into production(especially copper).

for some reason tho, I still like AMD. mebbe I'm deranged.
