<<I haven't noticed many of the "truth and justice" / "is is" crowd calling for Rehnquist's head on the "I" matter, but I may have missed something.>> On the one hand, I have to point out that the integrity of the office of the presidency is the only issue here. Yes, the questions raised about other politicians and offices may be valid. It does not contribute to the crisis at hand to throw every other issue into the same pot, however. It contributes to the feelings of being overwhelmed with hopelessness that some of us are harboring and the cynicism of others. Thus my occassional retort "revolution please." You've probably noticed that I've kissed this episode of our history off as a mock trial. If it turns out to be simply a partisan voting process, then there is no longer a presidential crisis or constitutional crisis. The crisis is over, we fail the test. The "great experiment" government of the US is no more. Corruption in our government is a forgone standard, status quo with other nations of the world. It wont be the first time that there was a battle in which everybody looses. All of us losers may some day be freezing to death in the dark with nothing to eat still pointing the finger of blame at each other for the degeneration of culture we caused, while fighting to stay in the decaying ruts we've made for our selves. We'll probably have to have t-shirts identifying the dems and repubs though, since championing anything but the party name will be a thing of the past. Have you ever heard of lung cancer victims who are dying in the hospital with a machine attached to their traecheotomy that allows them to have cigarrettes to smoke during their last days, still denying that a change in life style might have made a difference. Unable to rethink the position on the health hazards of smoking. Apparently it is common for people in this condition.
