I did this once with PSFT. It worked well for a nice profit. I'd wager that if you did it more than occasionally that your broker would get touchy. Perhaps an idea to keep in reserve when those 'no brainer' shorts come along, and one can't get a borrow.

Eric,

I've gone short stock by selling the calls naked and then having the stock sold to me come expiration day. Then Schwab gave me three days to cover unless they could find the stock for me. One can get by every once in a while as to what you did, but they will stop it as soon as they find out what you are doing.

Eric,

Did you actually 'sell' the stock instead of 'sell short'?

Seems like if it wasn't a 'sell short' the uptick rule may have been violated as well.
