Bernard, the most informative, non biased and science based information on probiotics that I have seen is the Danone site.

There are 17 newsletters at this site. Take your time and read them all. You will come away with a much better understanding of LAB (Lactic Acid Bacteria) which make up most probiotics. Newsletter # 11 is about kefir.

danonenewsletter.fr

You can also do searches on 'probiotic' with search engines. I try to find ones that are based on science and have published papers to back their articles up.

Is LWAY undervalued? It presently has a P/E of about 19. Their true earnings have been growing at a 25% rate for the past 12 months and that was while building up a new production facility. The CEO has said in a press release that he expects growth in 1999 to be between 25% and 30% and he stated that he knows that is a conservative estimate.
If you have followed my analysis of the financial reports you'll see that the company has been getting financially stronger with each quarter.

Yes it's undervalued. Let's hope that we begin to see that high growth starting with the last quarter. We have a 2 1/2 month wait till we see the 10K.

I just found another article on kefir and probiotics.

confex2.com

In layman's terms what this article says is that they fermented some kefir and then isolated the bacteriocin that was produced from the probiotic L. plantarum found in the kefir. They named the bacteriocin, plantaricin BAL-1. A 'bacteriocin' is a substance that has antibiotic properties. They tested it against several pathogenic bacteria and the results show that it has a good spectrum against foodborne pathogenic bacteria. In other words it kills some pathogenic bacteria.

This bacteriocin will be in the kefir as we drink it because it is secreted by L. plantarum while it is fermenting the milk in the process of making kefir. This organism is just 1 of 30 found in kefir.

Drink up !!

Mark

Bernard,

Here's a plain English summary of probiotics:

healthy.net

As for undervalued Lifeway, do you think the insane internet stocks are overvalued? These stocks have big negative earnings and are flying in price while micros like Lifeway making progressive positive earnings are on a steady decline in price. It's crazy out there.

Wouldn't know if now is the time to buy but if you look back around the Nov 97 price chart for Lifeway, when she decides to go it's quick so be prepared.
