John, Only time would tell.

I hope you are correct.. I personaly think unless you have texture/graphic intense jobs, or you have some extra money to burn, VPC (eventhough really cool) is too expensive for current cost sensetive NT market. The question remains that how much of the market consist of the two catagories in above?; and probably more importantly what is SGI's strategy to capture, deliver and maintain its position in that market. That to me, is too hypotetical (given SGI's history) to predict at this point.

So now that this VPC stuff is over, what about the other shoe? new IRIX/MIPS SGI hardware, with R12K chips, IR graphics on the desktop, and a faster I/O subsystem, for 40% less than SGI's current IRIX/MIPS based offerings?
with all this cool VPC price performance, when can i get an OctaneII that uses this new price performance model?
signed,
anxious in Hudson.
