I think the Utah quirk is a reflection of the intense religiosity in that part of the country. On almost every trip I make to Utah I meet people who are just burning with religious ardor. The only comparable place I can think of is Jerusalem, where you run into all kinds of religious nuts who think they are prophets, Jesus, etc. In fact, many start in places like Utah and then succumb to "Jerusalem syndrome," after traveling to the Holy land. The Arabs call them "Majnoons," and the Jews call them "Nebbishe" or "Putz."

I think Firmage is part of that same syndrome. Strong early religious indoctrination (in his case Mormon, with its prophets and angelic visits) plus underlying mental illness. Because Firmage has some scientific training, his comic book religion may actually be an effort to synthesize his more rational side with the little voices in his head.

Of course, it's possible that this is all an elaborate hoax and he is scheming to be the next L.Ron Hubbard. The fact that he actually claims to have been singled-out and visited by an angelic space being was especially disconcerting to some of us US WEB share holders. US WEB now seems to be in good hands and, with its expanding e-commerce practice, looks like an interesting Internet play.

Paul - He probably moved to Silicon Valley because this is where the new technology is, the action, and the stock options!....You need to look at the new emerging technologies. Many of the new start-ups are now under development here in Silicon Valley. Novell even has a venture capital fund that helps new start-ups finance their new technology "ideas". Look at Echolen (sp?), that has built a network that can manage devises via the internet...it was $3.00 last week...now $15! I believe Novell was working on the same idea but dropped the ball.

Open up your horizon and look to those companies that will deliver the new products and new technology ... and take the risk NOW!. This investor believes Novell will not spend the R&D dollars to develop those new emerging technologies that will leap frog the industry. Novell will use their extra "venture capital" dollars to invest in those companies that are developing these technologies now. Perhaps this is a sound conservative approach (which I support) but will not deliver the "home run" that most share holders are looking for in new products and "internet" type stock action...up..up and up!
