Kevin - Re: "Nobody is going to be using KNI for serious CAD work. "

You are DREAMING !

The KNI instructions will greatly enhance CAD, 3D Visualization and Rendering capabilities.

Floating Point Matrix Manipulation with the KNI and 128 bit register set will be used to accelerate vector operations, fundamental to 3D spacial computations.

KNI's Block Copy capability will also provide up to a 2 to 2.5X Memory Write speed up utilizing streaming stores to main memory. Moving large blocks of data to memory - a common task in CAD and Visualization applications - will get a major performance boost from this feature.

OpenGL drivers with KNI support should be available that will greatly speed up rendering operations for Pentium III, useful on all CAD and Animation applications that use the OpenGL Interface.
