Could it also be lying about what you have done during your congressional tenure, while trying to get other people in trouble for the same thing? I guess that is what you guys mean by striving for high moral standards. The Republicans and the Religious Right are redefining hypocrisy. This goes all the way back to NicPac, which collected money for the religious right by hammering the gay community, while the two founders lived in a homosexual relationship. Or perhaps further, to J. Edgar Hoover, who lived with Clyde Tolson even while hunting the left. And who blackmailed people with their sexual history and preferences (often found by filming through permanent one-way mirrors in Washington hotel rooms) into naming the people he and Roy Cohn wanted named as communists, even while he and Roy Cohn were transvestites in homosexual relationships. A portrait of sick self-denial and blue-nosed inquisition going way back, are the far right.
