>>The grass must be greener on the other side<<

Universal picture words that invoke...

You're standing, looking about, the ground barren and parched, deep seams running where it's cracked, scraggly weeds and a few wilting stalks of corn.. you look yonder way and see... a lush meadow, dark rich-green grass, knee-high, moisture glistens from its sharp tips, it waves softly and the ground slopes gently down to a pond... but you know, you being you, that if you scaled that wicked looking four-strand barbedwire fence that the picture would flip-flop.

That's - - interesting. Do you always think in words? I usually only think in words when I am talking or writing, or thinking about something I want to verbalize. Of course, I talk to myself a lot, so I do mentally verbalize a lot, but a lot of the time not.

I have a non-verbal mental twin, she is a lot smarter than I am, but we can only communicate when I am half-asleep, usually when I am waking up. Last night I was having a hard time sleeping, and she and I were exchanging non-verbal mental jokes and laughing at each other. "Idjit!" I think she takes over when I am in really bad situations, too, like about to have a wreck, or the time I pulled the space heater away from the wall and broke the gas pipe, or the times I was attacked. I get this - - clear - - feeling, like the world is in slow motion, and I have extra time to react.

Sorry but, the guiding fathers of the University of California are way ahead of you. In their infinite wisdom they have placed a Maritime Environment Observation Facility on the shores of Cook's Bay, about an hour's turbo-prop hop from Bora on Moorea.

And I suppose the Regents probably make personal visitations at great personal deprivation every winter just to insure that work is progressing satisfactorily.

Well, yeah, if it's COBOL now. Cuz in less than a year you'll be - uhm, I forget. Something. Important. <pfffffff...>

Our local microbrewery has a sign proudly proclaiming that <local software consultant> has certified their beer as Y2K compliant. Good, I say. Imagine losing your ENTIRE buzz at the stroke of midnight, 1/1/00.
