Republicans dont have a chance in 2000. The general populace used to be willing to overlook some of the far right issues the republicans push for the RR. Prayer in school, gay rights etc - your average citizen used to overlook that stuff even though they didnt agree with the right - because they were voting their pocketbook. But no more. And there will be no more republican majority in the house. I hope the republican leadership thinks bringing down Clinton was worth it.

Thanks.

As far as interpretation goes, this is a poll. And it's results are within the statistical margin of error. I wouldn't count any chickens yet. Most people know Dole because of Bob Dole, and Bush because of George Bush. I think the more folks know about either one of these two, the less they will like what they hear. Particularly Dole. The primaries will give us a good chance to see them rip each other up.

Meanwhile, Gore has already emerged from the crucible, fairly unscathed. He will have the money, and a lot of pissed off democrats backing him up. He will have all those ex-republicans who have been switching parties. He will be the vice-incumbent. Incumbent, if the right torches Clinton, looking for ten years in the white House. He has Tipper as protection against the RR, herself being a moralizing twit, if needed. He was an officer in Vietnam, and is a southerner. He has looked loyal and courageous through the Clinton scandal.

On the downside, he has Tipper, who makes a lot of demos want to urp. But demos don't have a history of holding candidates wives against them. He has the tobacco farmer thing, and what few bits the repubs have been able to dig up the last two years. But this is very small change in the enemy pockets.

I hope it's George W. Bush against him. The only guy who can make Gore look lively. I want to see him haul out that phoney southern accent in Missouri.

2 years ago I don't think Gore would have had a lock like this. But now demos will elect him just because he looks bulletproof in the current climate. With the trial going on, no demos dare start the primary battle with him. They'd look like disloyal creeps.

Plus, the electorate is absolutely off the idea that a divided victory with two parties sharing power is a good thing. No more sales on that idea.

Demos sweep in 2000. Watch.

So where did you come up with this Pataki business, Bill? Not only is he not one of the two front runners, he does even rate a mention among the possible candidates in your chosen citation. Unlike those powerhouse candidates Bob Smith(?) and Gary Bauer.

You sure have a funny estimation of what proves you right and me wrong. Or was this just a subtle debate trap, in the spirit of K?
