Rock...that is the best question i have heard in ages.....If you own shares in a company and they do a name change, that means their is also a cusip change....all long parties have to send shares to the transfer agent for the new shares.....

as for the shorters.....they may not have to cover but with careful reading of the dtc sheets and other pertinent info, you can determine how many are actually short (This is more of a concern for small cap stocks where shorting info is hard to find)....I do believe it puts some kind of pressure on the shorters.....I just dont know what kind....

maybe someone can fill in the blanks...
