[Advanced Radio Telecom Announces Operating Results for Fourth Quarter 1998] BELLEVUE, WASH. (January 12, 1999) Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. announced today its operating progress for the fourth quarter of 1998, the first full quarter in which it commenced business as a facilities based broadband Internet Services Provider. "I am very pleased to share ART's fourth quarter operating results," said Henry "Harry" C. Hirsch, chairman and CEO. "Our progress is very much in line with our expectations for ART's first operating quarter. Even at this early stage with this being the first full quarter that ART has offered commercial services, there certainly is some cause for optimism as to ART's future business prospects." ART's operating results as of December 31, 1998 as compared to the end of the third quarter, September 30, 1998, are as follows. * The number of markets in which ART is commercially operative increased from one to three with the addition of the Portland and Phoenix metropolitan areas. ART introduced commercial service in the Seattle metropolitan area in September. * The number of buildings to which ART has acquired access in the Seattle, Portland, and Phoenix metropolitan areas increased from 53 to 155. * The number of buildings with full connectivity to ART's regional network including network management capability increased from 14 to 85. * Customer orders for service increased from 20 to 142. Of the 20 orders at the end of September, 17 were pilot test customers that converted into commercial customers. Because ART provides a direct connection between the customer premise and the Internet, this eliminates the need for having two separate vendors -- one for Internet services and one for dedicated access. In addition, by integrating broadband wireless and fiber optic technologies with a packet- switched IP and ATM network architecture, ART can provide small to medium-sized businesses with tremendous value for advanced Internet communications products and services.
