That's strange, because I am totally jealous of your - - articulateness (?) - - articulation (?) - - wait a minute, I am going to have to look it up - - actually, expressiveness looks better - - totally jealous of your expressiveness.

Oh, wait, I see: >>>>>Lucid here and totally ditsy in real life?<<<<< Well, I'll vouch for the lucid here, anyway. Divorce Court Barbie, indeed!

Take heart, Penni. I am a pathetic verbalizer in 3D, for exactly the nervousness reasons you cite, around people. I can never really tell what is happening, or what people want to talk about. Heaven forbid don't be too weird. But I hate small talk. It's too unreal, by nature. And if I get started, I get more nervous, and then It's Over. Maybe that IS why we like it here, we have time to think, by ourselves. I also go blank. Especially around men and women.

Cats I can handle. Sometimes rocks and trees, too.

Mellow ones.

Penni,

It really is a lot easier conversing with people you can't see. It doesn't hurt that you can pull back and edit what you wrote. Many's the time I've wished I could do that with things I've said.

My mother always said that when she was in a tough position, this weird cold feeling came over her and everything got very clear and slow.

This has happened to me a lot, though not recently (life has gotten mellow in my old age). The more the stress, the greater the reaction; in really weird times, like if I've been physically hurt or when I've had people shooting at me, it's like I'm floating a few feet above the body, watching things happen and making totally practical decisions on what to do next (which usually involves running away or taking cover). Laughter, inexplicable and totally out of place, usually follows. I think it's physical, a straight endorphin rush. Alex would know better.

It doesn't work under social stress, not for me anyway. In those situations I prefer to creep quietly to the nearest exit, usually falling over something with a loud crash in the process.

Cyber-interaction is easier. Nothing to fall over.

Steve

Gosh, Penni, in 3D I can be a real charmer, but being basically a misanthrope I never want to be. So in 3D I'm argumentative, sarcastic, a mocker, and I suffer fools for about 1 nano-second. Except for the lolitae, who are immensely foolish but that's beside the point. But I am nice to my customers, whom I rarely have to see anyway.

Here, we get to EDIT. <g>
About Barbie's pink toilet backing up... you know what would come out is a material euphemism, just like what the captains of Mattel have done with her nether regions. I'll bet Barbie grunts out those little plastic granules which the Ty Company then charges hazmat fees to truck off. And you know what they do with it (the stuff)? A most ingenious value-added scheme. And you wonder why Barbie wrinkles her nose at Beanie Babies.

<flash!> Fusion! Beanie Barbie? or is that full of ****
