Today's release validates where the industry is moving toward and @Home is in the middle of it with a already functioning infrastructure. I think there are 3 important reasons why @Home will continue to do just fine going forward: 1, @Home doesn't claim to be a network company per se but more of a NextGen service provider (refer to mission statement below)@Home Network's mission is to provide a high-speed, fully integrated multimedia service that revolutionizes the way people interact with information and each other at home and at work. Further validating the mission statement is the acquisition of Narrative Communications Inc the leader in high-impact rich media advertising solutions for the Web last month (see link below for news release.) And who had said @Home can't provide what they are providing today over cable over xDSL...some places they already do. 2, SBC, U S West, Bellsouth and all the other big ILEC/RBOCs have now opened up the can of worms they wanted FCC to keep closed. It will now be harder to defend their demand for open access of AT&T/TCI network in order to let the merger go through while rolling out high-speed access themselves. The way this industry, increasing the pipewidth (smaller sizes) for less cost, is racing ahead with more and more alternatives to reach the end customer the FCC has to let the AT&T/TCI merger go through. 3, xDSL services are still limited by higher cost and end-user need to be within a certain range of the CO. The more competition the better, but calling the latest CPUC's (California Public Commission) decision a good decision in regards not to let the smaller xDSL service providers be able to get access to the last mile is to me not in the best interest of the customer (see below). One reason Pacific Bell is deploying this technology so rapidly in California is the favorable regulatory environment established by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC),'' said Jim Callaway, President, External Affairs Pacific Telesis. ''The CPUC has instituted fair guidelines which make it attractive for us to make the major capital investments necessary to bring this important technology to millions of the residents of this state.
