Mike - "US is on the skids"?? What numbers are you looking at? How about 4th quarter gdp of 4% and first quarter 1999 of 3%! The economy is doing so well that the dark cloud behind this silver lining is that Alan has stopped easing and may even tighten in 2nd half IF strong growth continues and world is stable: ie, Brazil solved and Japan starting to grow....

>>the US is on the skids, << ????

Are you and Bill Fleckenstein trying to start a tag team for cynicism?

Care to comment as to why the U.S. is "on the skids" while we are at full employment, inflation is low, and credit is flowing in the streets?

Need an obscene example of Greenspam's newly minted credit flow? AT&T sent me a Platinum Visa credit card with a $5,000 credit limit plus they gave me $100 cash to switch my long distance. Just one thing...I never filled out a form nor even requested the card! They sent it to me and said call them to activate/accept it. It doesn't get any better than that in the credit world! Consumer credit expansion is expanding at 3 times the GNP. This is one of the reasons why I don't buy the argument about a stuffed retail channel for PCs. Credit lines are being raised en masse for all but the slow payors. And consumers are once again spending like they won't be able to on 1/1/2000.

Someday the tech sky in your world will become sunny. If so, please send the sun north to Minnesota where it is now -15 degrees.

To All, Funny comment today from Larry Wachtel, who is usually a pretty savvy guy. He said Brazil didn't matter because it only amounted to 2 1/2% of US corporate eps.

The commentator might have been wise to ask what was the pre-Brazil consensus for eps growth this year? It is a large range, but 2 1/2% is the consensus. <G> It was too high and optimistic at that level, but Brazil is not likely to make it any better.
