Then why split at all. Berkshire Hathaway has never split.

I agree. It seems smart to keep the number of shares as low as possible, but bring the price per share down. It's all supply and demand. The smaller the float, the greater the price goes.

Intel has 1.753 billion shares outstanding , thus I doubt they used the to much liquitity reason as consideration for not spliting the stock at this time.
