In after hours following the the report, Yahoo fell to $395

After the close, Yahoo said its earnings rose sharply, revenue tripled and it would split its stock two-for-one.

But analysts weren't sure that would be enough to satisfy investors' towering ambitions for the biggest and most profitable site on the Web -- leaving uncertainty hovering over the entire sector that often takes its cue from Yahoo's stock.

''Expectations have gotten unachievable,'' said Chris Tuttle, technology analyst with SoundView Technology Group.

At the close of trading -- and before its earnings release -- Yahoo's stock eased $12.48 to end at $402, giving back some of its $70 gain of Monday. In after hours dealings following the the report, it fell further to $395.
