I thought I would add a dose of reality here.

First, I hope you are enjoying your 'no bear, fantasy dreamworld thread.' Without any bears to keep things in check, Iomega looks like the next intel, doesn't it? It's always best to invest with your eyes closed...

Now, a few comments:

About the CLIK!:

I can't figure out why this thread is working itself into a frenzy about this device. It basically serves as an intermediate storage element between a digital camera and a PC. It's an added step, and certainly doesn't add significant value to the solution for the cost involved. So what is the market?

(digital cam users) * (% who wants to spend the extra $200) = not much

Another question you must ask yourself is the potential for the device to canabalize sales from the relatively mature ZIP drives. What I can see is people buying the CLIK! disks instead of the higher margin ZIP disks. There is a finite size to the removable storage market... People will either store photos / pictures on a CLIK! or ZIP, not both...

about ZIP:

Not much mention about the Superdisk and Compaq. Compaq is a smart company... Now why would they be doing this? You must understand the answer to this question if you're investing in Iomega...

Is ZIP becoming more pervasive in PCs? hmm...

***

Now I fully expect to get dozens of flames because I post an opinion that doesn't match the collective group... oh well! But I'm hoping to generate some meaningful discussion, more like the good 'ol days before the bears were driven off the board..

Should be an interesting report coming up! If it looks good, I may re-invest for the first time in over a year...

Good luck!
