I would tend to believe this has already been discounted by the market in the last few days. LU has lost about 5 points or about 6.5 billion in market cap because of the merger speculation (the rest of the other points lost because of the market down day). This IMO, is enough premium. The moment they announce it, Ascend becomes Lucent and they will start moving side by side.

Once the market realizes that the sum of the parts is greater that the whole, I would expect LU to become the new king, CSCO the close 2nd and NT, the value play 3rd. Right now, the internet revolution pie is just too big for these 3 to be greedy. There would be plenty to go around, much like in the days when CSCO, WFLT, CS and COMS were starting.
