Excellent post, JBL.

Lautenberg's praise will be recorded in history alongside AlGore's profound "...the best president in history..." statement.

Fools.

Some repute

CNN's Frank Sesno has some interesting standards of
journalism. Referring to reports of the much-rumored DNA tests on
13-year-old Danny Williams, whose mother had claimed --
falsely, it turned out -- that the child was fathered by
then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, Mr. Sesno said Monday: "Why
do we have to tell that to our viewers? Because our viewers also
watch Jay Leno, who go on to the Internet, who read the
Drudge Report and other outlets out there. It was on the front
page of The Washington Times, an extraordinary article where
they said we're not even reporting it, but we've got to tell you
about this rumor that's out there. ... You know, when I worked for the AP, we didn't
report rumors." But when the topic was pornographer Larry Flynt's reporting of
accusations in Rep. Bob Barr's 1986 divorce, Mr. Sesno said: "Larry Flynt ... is, whether
we like it or not, a publisher of some dimension, of some repute."

JBL, thanks for the article...This passage is what I've seen mostly discussed by reasonable people who don't believe the President should be impeached.

<<<A cornerstone of this argument was the assertion that Kenneth Starr's case against Clinton did not concern an offense against the people but was only about a personal failing. It was not about crime; it was about sex, and only sex.>>>

Let's think about this... Bribery is a personal crime. You could argue that certain kinds of bribery wouldn't be an offense against the constitution or the country. If a politician bribed a local official for votes. Who is really hurt? How about if they were bribed with campaign contributions to change their vote in Congress? Yet, bribery is clearly laid out as an impeachable offense in the Constitution. Why?

I would suggest that perjury is a far worse crime than bribery. Accepting perjury destroy's the foundation the legal system is built on. Does bribery?

I would also suggest offering a job to Lewinsky in return for lying in court was a form of bribery. Interesting how you rarely hear this line of reasoning discussed.

Good article JBL. I loved Lautenbergs comment:

<<Lautenberg praised such efforts. "Larry Flynt," he said, "says his mission is against hypocrisy, and, boy, I think that's a pretty good mission.">>

larry flynt, missionary for the white house. I wonder if the Reverend Jackson can arrange a choir to back him up. Looks like the fox has been given keys to do some spring cleaning on the chicken coup. You know what his fees will be of course. Great hustle larry. Even though I hate his guts, I can't help but be impressed with his boldness. The hens (Lautenberg) in high places are clueless.

JBL,

I still think its funny that the Whitehouse
maintains that this whole impeachment matter
is about sex. I thought that Bill Clinton
maintains that he never had sex with that
woman. Kinda strange how he also maintains
that he did not have an improper relationship
with that woman, and then later changed the
story to "indeed, I did have an inproper
relationship with Monica Lewinsky", yet still
he says he never lied about anything, even
though he answered yes and no to the same
question. I think that George Orwell would
really enjoy Clinton's rather liberal abuse
of language.
