< AT&T is desperate.> Do you really think so? Why are they buying TVOMA which is the principal owner of ATHM? The popular theory is BB ISP, which seems to make sense. Get rid of the last mile problem, VoIP and add immediately w/ video. NXTL is great wireless but there's a real place for fiber broadband telephony straight to the consumer via cable internet, imo. Your thoughts please, I'm no expert and only a relatively recent holder of NXTL, which I believe has great untapped potential going forward. good investing, lnk.

Fred, I always enjoy your essays because they are visionary and inspiring. We all should dream a little more. Often, NXTL investors lose sight of the vision, caught up in the daily swings of this newborn company.

I do have one question: have you paused to consider the ramifications of resources that are wasted if everyone sits home and has their Internet-ordered products shipped individually to their homes? Think of the boxes and packaging materials, let alone the cost to drive it to each customer, instead of a more regional based distribution model, e.g. retail stores. I'm as bullish as you on the Internet, but this is one aspect that bothers me about success stories like Amazon.com or Federal Express.
