Dlr slips at US open as Brazil troubles grow

NEW YORK, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The dollar opened sharply
lower against the euro after Brazil's economic woes intensified
dramatically overnight, sparking fears that a new contagion
could spread through Latin America and affect U.S. markets.
Brazil allowed its currency, the real, to slide 8.6 percent
against the dollar overnight, bowing to pressure from months of
outflows of dollar reserves.
The defacto devaluation came after Brazil's central bank
president announced his resignation overnight, sending world
financial markets reeling. The dollar tumbled across the board
on early reports.
