Poet: Is 100% correct. If you MUST stay online and cannot get away from the computer to take a walk, stay here on SI and don't watch the market's every tick. I like Poet's list of respected SI people, and I highly suggest that we use them, or whatever it takes, as a distraction.

It won't take long for things to come back and NEVER use a market sell on a day like today.

Good post Poet.

Let's make it our goal to NOT lose money today

If a person has positions they are happy with for
the "long term", as cliche as that sounds, there
is no reason to even check the quotes. I know that
I am not going to look at my stocks...on a day like
today microcap biotech could go down 20% as a group,
and then come right back that much tomorrow.
However, I would not be in the sector I'm in if
I cared about 20% moves...and so I wont bother
visiting quote.yahoo or my broker's website today.

If the market does very poorly for a few weeks
however, I would strongly consider cutting a
check to add to a couple of my favorite positions,
thus raising my percentage of assets in stocks
from the 33% where I am now.

Poet: Great thoughts. You are getting very wise with the coming of the new year...not that you weren't wise last year. Just think what the new millenium could do ;)

Feels pretty hopeless/helpless watching the market. Trying to keep a positive outlook but can still feel my heart pounding. Guess I may get my desk cleaned off (after I eat my M & M's)

Would like to thank everyone for helping calm my panic this am. Knew as soon as I first typed here asking for HELP, that my market order at open was wrong. Pretty stupid. It is always a learning experience to see how you react to an "emergency" situation. It is very nice to have so many helpful people out there.

Now just sitting, waiting, watching... and eating M & M's.
