That is major news. Bell Atlantic plans to make its DSL technology available in areas covering 7.5 million homes by the end of 1999, a number that Bell Atlantic expects to nearly double to more than 14 million by the end of the year 2000. 7.5M by end of 99 is more than what cable expects. I assume most DSL subscribers will be on the internet. If AOL gets half of those, they would have around 4M broadband users, and by end 2000, AOL could have 7M broadband users. And that is just from this Bell Atlantic deal.

Sam, the Bell Atlantic AOL deal is fantastic. If they can give broadband for less than $20/mo plus add $22 for subscription, that comes to $40 which is what AtHome charges now with Comcast/TCI. Furthermore the Baby Bells own the famous " last mile " of wiring into people's homes. This is what AT&T has been desperately trying to get in through their purchase of TCI. But they only have 20 mill customers I think. That's peanuts. The Baby Bells are on the warpath against Ma Bell and I am sure they will do everything possible to trip them. I am seeing in the near future ( 2-4 months ), multiple nationwide accords between the Bells and AOL to provide nationwide coverage. If you bundle in telephony into the deal you are talking easily AOL >300 by Oct 98. AOL @ 148; still a great buy, back later, TA
