Thermal Medical Imaging Expanding Number of Sites for Clinical Trials of its Proprietary Breast Imaging System
PR Newswire - January 13, 1999 09:15

Company Seeks to Accelerate FDA Approval Process

OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermal Medical Imaging (TMI), Inc., a subsidiary of Computerized Thermal Imaging, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: COII) (CTI) announced today that it plans to add several additional clinical sites to the current trials of its proprietary breast imaging system.

"We are actively seeking to expand the number of centers in our clinical trials so that we can accelerate the gathering of data to be submitted to the FDA," said David A. Packer, President of TMI.

Clinical trials are currently underway at Norris Cancer Hospital and Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles, Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach and Providence Hospital in Washington D.C.

Packer added, "We are fortunate to have such a prestigious group of researchers and hospitals currently conducting trials on our proprietary breast imaging system. Our ability to expand this program is largely due to their hard work, and we are now in discussions with several new sites known for their women's health programs which should add significant momentum."

The on-going clinical trials of the TMI Breast Imaging System are designed to test the system as an adjunctive procedure to mammogram and clinical breast exam to assist doctors in differentiating benign from malignant breast anomalies prior to biopsy. The results from pilot studies indicate that the system may be a useful adjunctive technique with the potential to decrease the rate of benign biopsies by up to 38 percent. The system employs a thermal sensing device coupled with a specially developed computer algorithm that provides quantitative diagnostic information. The technique is painless, takes less than fifteen minutes to administer and involves no compression for the patient.

Computerized Thermal Imaging, Inc. develops and deploys thermal imaging and associated technologies for use in the enhancement of medical screening, diagnosis and patient management.
