FWIW, this is someone's personal experience with getting an ATHM installation. He sent it to me in PM, and authorized me to post it if I wanted. I will not post his name, not because it matters, but because he did not specifically authorize me to.

TCI just left.. 90mins to get the product installed... they had some problems cuz of the cable wiring in my condo... so not really they're fault...

however, they can't get the block sync to go active yet.. everything is installed... the tech said it's a matter of TCI routing the service to my modem to make it active... alot like turning on cable tv for someone once it's been disconnected...

he said if it didn't go active by tomorrow at 3pm I should call TCI tech support... so I'll let you know... overall they were very polite .. they sent 3 people to do the job... 1 who did the modem/pc stuff and software.. ... the other 2 worked on the cable and cable box outside...

to be honest, it went ALOT better than I expected... no software conflicts either and I have a 56k modem, DIamond 3dII video card, STB 128 Velocity video card, MPEG/DVD card, SB AWE64 gold and some other stuff... every slot is filled.. they put in a PCI ethernet card...

surprised they didn't screw up my system.. I'm still using my modem ISP right now... if this ATHOME gets up and running and all is well I'll cancel my local ISP for my 56k modem... and my second phone line cuz I won't need it...

I asked the tech and he said to expect downloads (across the board average) of about 100k to 150k per second... not like the 2 to 4million I was told on the phone initially .. but then I knew better... plus even their website www.home.net doesn't talk about 2 to 4million k per second... right now I'm averaging around 2 to 4k per second download... and that's with a 56k modem... so 100k will be fantastic... I don't care how fast... just NOTICEABLY FASTER... after all, in cancelling my 2nd phone line and local ISP I'm going to be getting faster service with TCI/@HOME for $10 less per month than I'm spending for 56k service now... you can post this if you like.. I can't... take care!!

To ahhaha: love your double-bottom Japan mini-boom scenario, but until they get their systemic internal financial problems corrected, that recovery would be short-lived. They will keep stagnating until they convert to a closer form of free-market capitalism, until then they (and we) will continue to play games with the money supply. If they think they had a hard time with the dollar, just wait until they try to game the Euro.
