Hi Vaughn,
Eglogite nodules with large diamond are well known. RT has stated that the work done on mineral chemistry suggests a depth of origin of 300 kilometers at Snap Lake versus about 200 kilometers at Lac de Gras. Also, the mineral chemistry is similar to that obtained from the Mir Pipe - extremely low Ca and extremely high (>17%)Cr in the pyropes-the mantle root at Mir is reported to be ~300 Kilometers (I assume Winspear's Russian consultant and diamond expert would be privy to this kind of data). Having some experience in the diamond business, and knowing some of the history of the famous "Russian" diamond and it superior quality (diamond from the Mir pipe) and the headache it gave De Beers, given their comparatively inferior quality diamond, I inferred the reported comment by a Diamonteer that some of the diamonds look like "Russian" diamond to be anecdotal confirmation of of the depth of origin as stated by RT.

I agree that multiple cone sheets are akin to distinct emplacement phases. I would be suprised if there wasn't variation from one phase to another, or in the case of Snap Lake, from one sheet to the next. I believe that one of the reasons why Winspear also wants a bulk sample from the north shore, is because they are confident that is is part of the same sheet or phase as that previously sampled on the NW peninsula area.

regards,
teevee
